Manchester Day

The first Manchester Day took place in 2010. Commissioned by Manchester City Council its aim has been to celebrate everything that is uniquely Mancunian. It is now a regular annual event and has expanded from being a colourful city centre parade to include amazing spectacles and performances in the city squares and elsewhere.
The creative process that makes Manchester Day such an outstanding spectacular event is curated by ‘Walk the Plank’.

Claire was a Lead Artist in the inaugural 2010 event and has continued in this role for many of the events since. Claire has enjoyed working closely with a huge variety of Community Groups, helping to realise their creative visions and engaging many people through hands on workshops.

It has been a valuable opportunity to develop a stronger Creative Practice, learning new skills including Costume Design and creating Art for the street, and within a set budget. Claire collaborated with other Artists to create the big Carnival structures and costumes.

On several occasions Claire also lead a team of Artists to design and create all the Signs for the many different Community Groups.
