RLPO

Claire worked as a steward at the Philharmonic Hall, which led to her attending rehearsals and making observational drawings of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO) in 2005-2006. These were then developed in the studio, incorporating sheet music donated by the Philharmonic Hall Library.

“The paintings explore the patterns that occur within the orchestra, particularly the bows, as their movements parallel the rhythms and notes of the music being played. The scale of co-ordination and organisation amazes me when watching the orchestra. The energy and emotion of the musicians intensely focussed on a common objective. These paintings express music visually while simultaneously referencing the observational drawings and studies.”
