“Early in 2002 I spent 3 weeks alone in Laos PDR, South East Asia. During this time, I visited remote hill tribes and made drawings based around the markets and people. I find these people fascinating. They are living a simple and ancient way of life which rests on a fragile balance, one which is increasingly threatened by the social and economic changes of the modern world.”

On returning from this visit, Claire worked from the initial drawings and vivid memories and produced a series of paintings. They retain the simplicity of the initial response and the vibrancy of the people and colourfulness of Laos.
